It's possible to trade profitably on the Forex, the nearly $2 trillion worldwide currency exchange market. But the odds are against you, even more so if you don't prepare and plan your trades. According to a 2014 Bloomberg report, several analyses of retail Forex trading, including one by the National Futures Association (NFA), the industry's regulatory body, concluded that more than two out of three Forex traders lose money. This suggests that self-education and caution are recommended. Here are some approaches that may improve your odds of taking a profit. Prepare Before You Begin Trading Because the Forex market is highly leveraged -- as much as 50 to 1 -- it can have the same appeal as buying a lottery ticket: some small chance of making a killing. This, however, isn't trading; it's gambling, with the odds long against you. A better way of entering the Forex market is to carefully prepare. Beginning with a practice account is helpful and risk-free. While you're trading in your practice account, read the most frequently recommended Forex trading books, among them Currency Forecasting: A Guide to Fundamental and Technical Models of Exchange Rate Determination, by Michael R. Rosenberg is short, not too sweet and highly admired introduction to the Forex market. Forex Strategies: Best Forex Strategies for High Profits and Reduced Risk, by Matthew Maybury is an excellent introduction to Forex trading. The Little Book of Currency Trading: How to Make Big Profits in the World of Forex, by Kathy Lien is another concise introduction that has stood the test of time. All three are available on Amazon. Rosenberg's book, unfortunately, is pricey, but it's widely available in public libraries. "Trading in the Zone: Master the Market with Confidence, Discipline and a Winning Attitude," by Mark Douglas is another good book that's available on Amazon, and, again, somewhat pricey, although the Kindle edition is not. Use the information gained from your reading to plan your trades before plunging in. The more you change your plan, the more you end up in trouble and the less likely that elusive forex profit will end up in your pocket. Diversify and Limit Your Risks Two strategies that belong in every trader's arsenal are: Diversification: Traders who execute many small traders, particularly in different markets where the correlation between markets is low, have a better chance of making a profit. Putting all your money in one big trade is always a bad idea. Familiarize yourself with ways guaranteeing a profit on an already profitable order, such as a trailing stop, and of limiting losses using stop and limit orders. These strategies and more are covered in the recommended books. Novice traders often make the mistake of concentrating on how to win; it's even more important to understand how to limit your losses. Be Patient Forex traders, particularly beginners, are prone to getting nervous if a trade does not go their way immediately, or if the trade goes into a little profit they get itchy to pull the plug and walk away with a small profit that could have been a significant profit with little downside risk using appropriate risk reduction strategies. In "On Any Given Sunday," Al Pacino reminds us that "football is a game of inches." That's a winning attitude in the Forex market as well. Remember that you are going to win some trades and lose others. Take satisfaction in the accumulation of a few more wins than losses. Over time, that could make you rich!

  • 1/3 cup Buffalo Sauce I used Frank's
  • 1/3 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 cup chopped cooked or rotisserie chicken
  • Ham and Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried mustard or Dijon Mustard optional
  • 2/3 cup grated cheddar cheese plus more for topping
  • 3/4 cup chopped cooked or deli ham
  • Kimchi
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped kimchi
  • 1/4 cup diced red peppers
  • 1/3 cup crumbled cooked bacon optional
  • Jalapeño Popper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 3-4 Jalapeño peppers de-seeded and chopped, plus round slices for topping (if desired)
  • 1/3 cup softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup cooked crumbled bacon
  • Mushroom, Pepper and Spinach
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder optional or to taste
  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms white button or cremini
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell peppers
  • 1 cup chopped spinach
  • 1/4 cup diced cooked sausage optional
  • Spinach and Cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 cups chopped spinach
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese plus more for topping
  • Sun-Dried Tomato, Parmesan and Spinach
  • 1/3 cup 1/2 sun dried tomatoes soaked in very warm water until tender and chopped (discard soaking water)
  • 3/4 cup chopped spinach
  • 1/4 cup loosely packed chopped fresh basil
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese plus more for topping
  • Tomato, Spinach and Parmesan
  • 1/2 tso garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup diced ripe tomatoes
  • 1 cup chopped spinach
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese plus more for topping


Instructions

  1. START WITH THIS BASE RECIPE FOR ALL BREAKFAST EGG MUFFINS:
  2. Preheat oven to 400 F. Line a 12 count muffin pan with silicone liners or coat with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. In a large 4 cup measuring cup or mixing bowl, crack in eggs and whisk together with salt and black pepper.
  4. Broccoli and Cheddar
  5. Whisk in garlic powder and thyme until combined. Stir in broccoli and cheddar. Divide evenly into muffin tins1 filling each about 2/3 full.
  6. Sprinkle with more cheddar if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  7. Buffalo Chicken
  8. Whisk in garlic powder and buffalo sauce until combined. Stir in green onions. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  9. Use a spoon to evenly distribute chicken into muffin cups (about 2-3 tablespoons each). Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set. Serve with a drizzle of buffalo sauce if desired.
  10. Ham and Cheddar
  11. Whisk in garlic powder and onion powder until combined. Stir in ham and cheddar cheese. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  12. Top with more ham and cheese if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  13. Kimchi
  14. Whisk in sesame oil until combined. Stir in kimchi, cheese and bacon (if using). Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  15. Top with more chopped kimchi & bacon if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  16. Jalapeño Popper
  17. Whisk in garlic powder, onion powder and cream cheese until combined. Stir in cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeño and bacon. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  18. Place 1 round jalapeño slice on top in each muffin cup, if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  19. Mushroom, Green Pepper and Spinach
  20. Whisk in Italian seasoning until combined. Stir in mushrooms, peppers and spinach (Add sausage if using). Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  21. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  22. Spinach and Cheese
  23. Whisk in garlic powder and basil until combined. Stir in spinach and cheese. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  24. Sprinkle with more cheese if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  25. Sun-Dried Tomato, Parmesan and Spinach
  26. Stir in sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, basil and cheese. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  27. Sprinkle with more cheese if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
  28. Tomato, Spinach & Cheese
  29. Whisk in garlic powder and Italian seasonings until combined. Stir in tomatoes, spinach and cheese. Divide evenly into muffin cups filling each about 2/3 full.
  30. Sprinkle with more cheese if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until set.
